Film: Props Planning (Mise En Scene)

For our horror movie we need specific crops to have a successful horror movie. The props included are: camera, camera microphone, clown mask, clown costume, fake blood, fake knife, balloons, lights and a jack in the box.

Camera/Microphone:

The camera has better display images. The HD camera appears as natural as possible. The microphone helps pick up sounds naturally. This helps the sounds sound realistic and helps the audience engage with the sounding.

Fake blood:

The fake blood helps to have cuts and killing visible and obvious. This would give the illusion that someone has been stabbed and slaughtered. This would reassure the audience the genre of the movie - paranormal/slasher.

Machete:

This fake machete would go with the conventions of a horror movie with the villain. This machete could be used to portray pain and killing. This weapon would portray fear from the victims.

Balloons:

Balloons are required as they're the main prop that start off the horror movie. Balloons are used for decorations usually for a happy event like a birthday. Usually clowns show up with their balloons and other props but their main prop is a balloon. Therefore, this could help make the clown seem more realistic.

Lights:

Throughout our film low key lighting will be used. This is because our film will be filmed in the dark at night. Lowkey lighting will help to show the characters faces but not be too bright to the point where it looks like its day light. Darkness could give the audience a fear of the unknown. The audience will be taken by surprise when they see little crops such as: balloons etc in the lowkey lighting.

Jack in the box:

The jack in the box could be used as a prop by Rhia when she sees Myles' body. She will see this prop then see the clown in the reflection of the mirror. This prop is important as it leads to Rhias death and also follows after Myles' death. This prop could give a more realistic approach between the clown and his random appearances.

Film: Location/Setting (Mise En Scene)

The shot of this alley is a extreme long shot which leads to a park. This could be a location for our horror film. This is because its empty, dark, scary and isolated. This location could link to sinister things happening in the dark, murders and spirits. Also this fits well with our main plot idea because there is a tree near by so the balloon that Myles finds could be there.

This shot is also a extreme long shot of an alley/the bridge at a park. We would consider this as being a location for our short horror film. This is because the fence/gate could indicate that there's someone/something on the other side of it. There is also trees near by this shot too so the plan of the balloon with Myles would be a success with this location too.

This shot is also a extreme long shot of a railway stairway which could be a location for when me and Santiago (Vijender) are being chased by the clown after the death of Rhia and Myles. This location is downhill which would make it easier for us to run down but also increases the chance of us falling which could give the sense of tension for the audience. This shot could be from the clowns perspective to show his hierarchy.

This shot is also a extreme long shot and this location could be used whilst the four characters are on their way to the party discussing how good its going to be. This is as the street lighting wouldn't make the location as dark and sinister. The lighting is low key so it wouldn't be too bright and may also give the feeling of suspense. This location gives the sense of a typical atmosphere for young teens to be in before a party as majority of them start late.

This shot of the house is a extreme long shot. This location could be used for when Santiago (Vijender) when hes the last person alive and is running towards the house where the house party was meant to be at. This could be a good location because the house is covered by trees and may suggest that this house has some sort of sinister background and isn't safe but he takes the chance anyway. By the looks of the house it could indicate that Santiago (Vijender) should not enter the house.

Film: Storyboard (Mise En Scene)

In the opening scene the four friends are on their way to a party. Myles begins to start joking about a wolf and Rhia begins to get scared. An establishing shot will be used so that the whole opening scene is shown and the four characters are in the frame. The transitioning at the beginning will be fading in to start the film. This scene will be located in the dark by a park. Eye level angle between Myles and Rhia shows equality between the sexes.

The jumpcut to the next scene shows how Myles has seen a balloon when he tells his friends they don't acknowledge what hes been saying as he lied about seeing a wolf. The close up shot of the balloon portrays the importance of it. This scene will still be in the park however in the frame it will only be the tree, the balloon and Myles. Myles sees the balloon and pops it but nothing happens he sees another balloon and then the scene changes. The jumpcut to the next scene will cut to a long shot of the clown standing over Myles' dead body on the floor. This shows the importance of the balloon. The location will be the same as scene 2. The key props in this scene is the balloons, the clown mask and the clown costume with the machete and also fake blood. When Myles pops the second balloon the clown comes out from behind the balloon and stabs Myles to death.

In this scene Rhia, Santiago, and Helena come running when they realise that Myles is missing and when they heard screams from when he was getting stabbed by the clown. The extreme shot shows the facial expression of all the characters when they see Myles lying on the floor dead. The location of this scene is the same as the location in the previous scene however, the key prop in the scene is the jack in the box near his dead body which only Rhia notices. A point of view shot will be used to show what Rhia is seeing when she picks the jack in the box up. Also an over the shoulder shot will be used when she opens the jack in the box and sees the clown in the mirrors reflection. The camera shots, angles and movements will be different for this scene. The camera will jump from the prop to Myles' dead body. Close ups of Rhias facial expressions will be shown. In the same location, the clown kills Rhia. Helena and Santiago will run away from the scene. In this scene a clown circus theme will be edited in (non-diegetic) to show how killing Rhia is amusement for the clown. Medium close up of the clowns face will show his happiness and craze of how much joy hes getting out of killing the innocent teenagers. An extreme long shot will show Helena and Santiago running away from the clown whilst he stands over her body.

In this scene Helena and Santiago have just ran away from the clown. Santiago tells Helena to go and get help and states that he will try his best to distract the clown if he crosses paths with him. The close up of the characters will show their heavy panting. The location changed from the park to a street. Santiago then begins to wonder where Helena's been for so long. He rings her to see if shes found any help. The close up of Santiago's face will show his concern for Helena. The close up of the prop which is a phone would show hes eager to get in touch with Helena. He begins to get worried as he gets no answer from Helena. The long shot will show his back against a wall feeling worthless. Then the clown finally answers the phone from Santiago and tells him that he's next. The machete prop in his hands and Helena dead on the floor implies that hes killed Helena. The long shot of the clown's body over Helena would show the audience that he killed her. The jumpcuts from the phone to the machete and lastly to Helenas body on the floor.

In these scenes Santiago is found running to the house where the house party was originally meant to be at. Hes hoping to get help and the extreme long shot would show the setting of the house and the directions in which hes heading. The long shot of the clown would show that hes spotted Santiago and begins to head in his direction. The location would be on the street where houses are present. This scene would fade in after the previous scene to show darkness around him. The jumpshot from Santiago entering the house to the living room will be edited in. The long shot will show the surroundings in the room and have close ups of both the clown and Santiago. Here there are props such as; the balloon. The low angle show would show Santiago's vulnerability in front of the clown and also show hierachy.
